Quit for Keeps
Quit for Keeps offers support for quitting smokers through a toll-free quitline. From 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, smokers can call 1-877-44U-QUIT and speak with trained cessation counselors who can create a personalized plan to quit.

Rage Against the Haze

South Carolina Cancer Alliance (SCCA)
SCCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing the impact of cancer on all people in SC. Membership is open to any individual or organization interested in reducing the impact of cancer.

South Carolina Coalition for Obesity Prevention Efforts (SCCOPE)
SCCOPE launched a strategic framework to address obesity called Moving South Carolina Towards a Healthy Weight: Promoting Healthy Lifestyles and Healthy Communities.

South Carolina Nutrition Research Consortium (SCNRC)
SCNRC combines SC’s three research universities, other state colleges and universities, industry, and government to foster innovative research on nutrition and its effects and launch outreach programs to promote good nutrition and disease prevention.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure
The Komen Foundation is fighting to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by funding research grants and supporting education, screening and treatment projects in communities around the world. Komen affiliates are in the Upstate and the Lowcountry.

Palmetto SeniorCare
Palmetto SeniorCare’s Healthy Aging Program Initiative incorporates a variety of exercise programs for area seniors and others who may be challenged with obesity, arthritis, joint/bone conditions, etc.

South Carolina Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (SCCPPA)
SCCPPA unites efforts of organizations, businesses, schools, and individuals who are concerned with promoting physical activity and health in all populations.

USC's Healthy Carolina
Through identifying areas of high health risk, Healthy Carolina encompasses the overall health and wellness of the USC community, and targets improved nutritional options, better exercise opportunities, and more smoking cessation policies.

Upstate Region Resources

Erskine Wellness
Campus-community initiative includes Town of Due West, Due West Retirement Center, Abbeville County memorial Hospital, Dixie High School, and Due West Family Medicine. Website pending.

Greater Greenville Shrinkdown
The Shrinkdown™ is a free healthy living program offered by the YMCA of Greenville, Furman University, St. Francis Health System and Greenville Hospital System to address the growing obesity epidemic and make Greenville healthier. Plans are in the works to expand this program throughout SC in 2006.

Greenville Walks
Intended as an extension of the Shrinkdown™, Greenville Walks is a free five-week community wellness initiative designed to promote walking.
